WELLINGTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) July 21. Although the weather on the middle day of the Wellington meeting was boisterous and affected the attendance and the falling off in the totalisator turnover for the meeting ran into five figures, the receipts on the other days make up for the falling off, and the gathering was a success from a financial point of view. Hastings owner-trainer J. M. Cameron leaves for Sydney to-day with The Hawk. Goshawk, Peneus (who is intended for hurdle racing), and the rising three-year-cid Merry Mint, who ran second in the Trial Plate at Trentham. The last-named is engaged in the A.J.C. Derby. The omission of Nukumai's name from the Grand National Hurdle Race was an omission on the part of his owner or trainer. He would have made a good topweight. Th© balance of the New Zealand horses for the A.J.C. meeting are booked to leave by the Ulimaroa on the 29th inst. F. D. Jones is taking Limerick, Battlement, Arikiwia, and the two-year-olds Roscrea (half-brother to Ballymena and Limerick), and the aptly-named Tariff, by Polymestor —Protection.
