A Wanganui Herald reporter while cycling home late on a recent night, near the top of the Avenue, heard a woman scream, and scenting good copy he spurted in the direction whence the noise came. Through the driving rain a woman’s form loomed up as she stopped out on to the road. “What’s the matter?” queried the scribe “This wretched footpath,” replied the woman. “I have just stepped into a puddle holo and the cold water got over the top of my shoes.”. An Auckland resident who called on his Chinese laundercr found that since the occasion of his previous visit a number of alterations had been carried out at the shop (states the Star), the principal one being the erection of a wire grille for the full length of the counter, with a small opening for the reception and handing out of parcels. “Making it like a cage?” hazarded the visitor. “Plenty thief, Auckland,” said John sadly. “Someone takem four lots starched collars off counter. Allee same bank now.” Cablegrams from Mr Hay (manager of the New Zealand cricket team) to the effect that he was having difficulty in finding a suitable coach for the Otago Cricket Association were considered at a meeting of the Association and membesr of the Citizens’ Coach Fund Committee on Fridayevening. The meeting dccilled to adhere to a previous decision that the coach must reside in Dunedin for a period including three seasons, and to send a cablegram to Mr Hay conveying that information/ and asking him to send further advice a month hence,
