THE DAVIS CUP

FRANCE DEFEATS SWEDEN. STOCKHOLM, July 15. In the Davis Cup Borotra and Brugnon defeated Malirstrom and Wallengerg, 6—4, 6—l, 6-1. July 16. France beat Sweden in the European zone of the Davis Cup semi-final, winning the first three matches. France will meet Britain in the final. NEW YORK. July 16 At Havana in the Davis Cup preliminary ties Crccker (Canada) defeated Banet (Cuba) 6—4, 6—4, 6—l; Paris (Cuba) defeated Wright 2—6, 6—4, 2—6, 6—3, 6-4. The match was bitterly contested despite the torrid heat. Crocker, who was already handicapped by a cold and a sore throat, was exhausted after the second set. Ice water was poured down his back, and, thus refreshed, he won his match against Bauet. Again exhausted, he retired to the club house, but he rejoined the 1000 spectators to cheer his countryman Wright, who, after an excruciating seesaw five-set match, lost gamely, but gloriously, to Paris.
