MOTOR REGULATIONS.
TAXATIOX_OF TAXIS. DEPUTATION OF PROTEST. WELLINGTON, March 11. . A deputation representing the taxi owners of the Dominion interviewed the Primo Minister and complained of the unjustness of the heavy traffic regulation* affecting cars which, with a load exceeding two tons, were taxed at the rate of 30* per pasenger, or equal to £lO 10s for a sevon-seater car. The proprietary companies evaded this by importing machines under the limit, but many returned soldier* who owned cars were affected. It wus contended that, as only about 3000 taxis paid the tax, the total was so small as to be negligible, and also that cars subject to taxation were rarely loaded up to the taxation weight. Mr Coates said the Government was not aft*r revenue, but it was a matter concerned with sound Toad maintenance. The Prime Minister said he would investigate the complaint and give a reply a* early as possible.
