The Main Highways Board on Thursday discussed at length the question of the elimination of lever railway crossings. The board now proposes to approach the Railway Department with a view to arriving at a basis of contribution towards the cost of elimination as between the three parties concerned—the New Zealand Railway Department, the Main Highways Board, and local bodies. The scheme will cover a number of years, the programme for each year being determined by the degree of danger.
