AUSTRALIAN FRUIT.
PEACHES FROM MELBOURNE. Luscious peaches # from the orchards of Melbourne arrived in the Australian Court last week, and Mr H. W. Mobsby, the Queensland Commissioner, an expert in Ihe pocking and handling of fruit, wag bard it vork sorting and preparing the perfect Ipeoimens for display.
The progress made in canning and ]&m manufacture in Australia during the past few years has necessitated particular attention being paid to the growing of peaches and apricots which thrive exceedingly well in Victoria, and the specimens of fruit which are now to be seen in the Australian Pavilion would be hard to equal Every sample is all that a good peach should be—the skins are thin, soft, and easily removed, the flavour is superb, and the samples are juicy and large in size More than 12,000 acres of peaches are under cultivation in Victoria, and the total acreage of peach orchards in the Commonwealth is a little over 27,500 acres.
