Aii old oak tree recently cut down by the Public Works Department on land acquired in Auckland for railway purposes has started on a new lease of life. The grandson of the original planter of the oak secured possession of the stump, with the roots attached, and it was conveyed by motor lorry to the west side of the railway to a site immediately opposite the old flourmill, where it was replanted. The task was no easy one, ns the stump had a girth of 18ft, and the whole, with a certain amount of soil tached, weighed over live tons.
