Although Caroline Bay is fortunately immune from sharks, it is a well-known fact that further out in the bay members of the species are often seen by fishermen (reports the Timaru Herald). The danger incurred by long-distance swimmers who occasionally venturo out beyond the confines of the bay was instanced on a recent morning when a grey shark, measuring approximately Oft, was caught by a fisherman in the proximity of the bell buoy.
