RECENT SEAMEN'S STRIKE.
WELLINGTON, February 24. The aftermath of the recent seamen's strike occurred in the Magistrate's Couit, -when the Department of Awards claimed from A. J. Halswell, E. Harman, Thus. Miles, S. Rudd, and A. Collinger (firemen on the Ngaio) £lO each for alleged breach of oontract. The circumstances surrounding the prosecution were to the effect that the firemen on the Ngaio refused to take the ship to sea on aooount of the faot that four passengers who had served as volunteer seamen during the Ootober strike were aboard. The men had intimated that if these passengers were kept on the vessel they would not take the vessel to sea. The steamer returned to the wharf, and the passengers were Induced to disembark, though they protested. The defence contended that it was not a ytrike, but merely threatened disobedience. Decision was reserved.
