TABLE TALK. Monday. On Thursday afternoon the Ufliversitv Senate were entertained at an “At honrn at the Otago Women’s Club. During the afternoon delightful musical items were supplied by Miss White (piano), Miss Mac George (’cello), and Miss Gwenda Williams (violin). A most delicious tea was much enjoyed in the luncheon room, where the table was beautifully decorated with bright pink and heliotrope sweet peas. The local branch of the St. John’s Nursing Division is in full swing, with increased membership in the new season. Last week Dr Gibson gave an interesting lecture on the importauce of fractures, demonstrating the treatment of euoh. The members are looking forward to the visit of Lady Marjorie Dslrymple, whom they will be given the opportunity to meet, she herself being advanced in St. John nursing work. A* most unique and charming entertainment was provided, including jui-jit-su, fencing, a most amusing fancy-dress procession, ana some excellent music. The ship was gaily decorated aud, on arrival, each guest was adorned with a breast knot of the combined Japanese flags and given a little silk flag, and, in the case of the ladies, a pretty fan.. Refreshments of all sorts were, served it: the wardroom, where the decorations of paper flowers and dwarf troee were quite delightful, and most people sampled sake and found it very like a dry sherry. At a general meeting of the Piqnoer Club held on Wednesday evening, Mra W. F. Massey was elected an honorary life member, and Mvs J. G. Coates was elected vice warden. Miss Kane, club president, gave an interesting account of the Federation of Women’s Clubs. New Zealand, which, has for president this year Lady Ferguson and for secretary Miss Nicholson. Mrs Stanton Haroourt, Dr Bennett, Mis and Miss Pike, and Miss D. Isaaca, all of whom recently returned from abroad, were welcomed book. The arts and craftß circle was congratulated on its success in the Dunedin Exhibition. Mrs Bussell and Miss Townley sang, and Miss Henry, of U.8.A., who is a representative of the Women’s Trado Unions League of America, spoke moat interestingly on many matters of interest, especially the work of the Federation of Women’s Clube in U.S.A., and the work of the International Labour Conference aft Geneva She also spoke of the excellent work of Dame Rachel Crowdv, who was in charge of a department of ohild welfare and social hygiene which she herself had built up in connection with the League of Nations, and which has representatives from eleven nations, including U.9.A., even though this last has not yet joined the League of Nations.

CARTERTON, February 26. A very pretty wedding took place at the Ivnox Church in Masterton last week, when Vera Constance, third daughter of Mr and Mre L. Wilton, Masterton, was married to Hugh, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. Hedley, of North Auckland. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of saxe blue crape de chine with toast shade hat and shoes to match. Greytown, on Thursday when Mr Guy Robert Jury, fourth son of Mr C. J. and Mrs Jury, old and respected residents of Greytown, was married to Doris Mary, daughter of the Rev. G. KnowleaSmith, minister of the Methodist Church Greytown, and better known in Wellington, where he was once in charge of the Central Mission there. The ceremony took place at • ’ a^er the bride was the officiating clergyman, assisted by the Rev. H . Greenslade. The bride was given away by Mr G. Miss Annie Moroney was bridesmaid, attired in a frock of apricot satin and black and gold hat. Mr Raymond Coe carried out the duties of best man. After the reception the bride and bridegroom left on a tour of the North Island, the bride travelling in a smart ensemble suit of honey kasha cloth with smart hat to tone. A popular wedding was solemnised at St.. David’s Church, Woodville, when Mabel, third daughter of Mr and Ilrs J. M. Hutchinson, of Papatawa, was married to Edward Stuart, eldest son of Mr and Mrs James Bibby, of Waipawa. The Rev. J. Gardner officiated and Mrs Russell presided at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated by girl friends of the bride. The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, looked charming in a dainty gown of white crepe de chine and georgette, embroidered wiht silver tissue. Her veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms, and the shower bouquet carried was of cream and pinii flowers and maidenhair fern. HAMILTON, February 24. A farewell bridge party was given by Mrs H. J. Greenslade at her home on Thursday for Mrs R. Matthews and Mrs E. F. Cowles. The rooms were artistically decorated with pale pink and mauve asters. Mrs Greenslade was wearing a smart georgette frock. Those present were Mesdames R. Matthews. E. P. Cowles, T. B. Insoll, D. Massey, dio has been staying for several months past with her daughter, Mrs Lawrence Taylor, Mount Eden, left last week for Wellington to spend some time with Mrs Salmon. Mr and Mrs H. P. Kissling are visiting the South Island, and are intending to pay a visit to tho Exhibition before returning to Auckland. Mr and Mrs George MaoMillan are at present in Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs David Gillies, who have let their home in Victoria avenue for several months, are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Howard (Blenheims for a few weeks. Dr and Mrs Fred Fitchett, who have been staying with relatives in Dunedin, have returned to Auckland. Mrs and Miss Ridings (Remuera) are visiting friends in Dunedin. The engagement is announced of Miss Durelle Cooke, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. E. Cooke, Lichfield road, Parnell, to Mr John Robertson, of Inverness, Scotland. The marriage of Miss Joyce Newcomb, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Neville Newcomb, of Kohimarama, Auckland, to Captain D. A. Vaughan-Philpot, of Sussex, England, took place at St. Mary’s pro-Cathedral on Thursday afternoon of last week, the Rev. Canon James officiating. The bride wore a fully trained frock of ivory satin beaute, and her white tulle veil was fastened to the hair with a coronet of gold and silver leaves, white heather, and orange blossoms, and her bouquet was composed of cream roses and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids— Miss Mary Wi’son, Miss Margaret Gunson, and Miss Gwen Fullerton—were alike in charming frocks of shot blue and green eouple satin, and they carried baskets of blue delphiniums. Mr Raymond Pakenham, of Hawke’s Bay, was best man. A reception was afterwards held by Mr and Mrs Newcomb at their home, Scott Willoughby. Kohimarama, when a large number of guests was present. Mrs Newcomb’s frock of grey silk marocain was made with a front panel embroidered with slender gold and silver leaves, and her black hat was trimmed with jade and black velvet. Lady Gunson wore a frock of pole gold silk marocain with deep ecru lace finishings, and pretty black hat. Some of those present were Lady Lockhart, Mrs Stanley Newcomb, Mrs A. Newcomb. Mrs A. A. Martin ar.d Mies Martin, Mrs and Miss Aileen Parkes, Mr? Didsbury, Mrs W. Brown (Wellington). Mrs Davidson (Wellington), Mrs and Miss Coleman, Mrs and Miss Boyle, Mrs Fullerton, Mrs E. J. Wiseman, Mrs and Miss Vaile, and Mrs Geddcs, etc. Mrs L. D. Haviland has arrived in Auckland from Tokomavu Bay by the Wainui. She was accompanied by her brother, Mr B. E. Fcrgusson. Dr and Mrs Wilkin, who have been visiting the South Island for the past month, have returned to Auckland. Mrs Cecil Leys is visiting Dunedin. Mr and Mrs 11. Morton are also in Dunedin.
