While the question of State Advances was being discussed by the Wellington Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, it was stated that land sales effected on paper without cash transactions were responsible for the high value of land. The State Advances scheme, instead of being a solu' tion of several of the purchasing problems, had n reverse result from what was Intended. This was a serious thing for New Zealand, which was dependent on her production. The fee for a registered letter in England was originally 2s 6d, and later Is. ,
