UPPER SILESIA

ALLIES DEMAND WITHDRAWAL. LONDON, June 15. Owing to the refusal of the German troops to withdraw, from Upper Silesia, the Allies are sending representations to Berlin, stating that the Interallied Commission’s authority must not be compromised. KORF A NTZ ’S A UTOCR A CY. LONDON, June 16. The situation in Upper Silesia remains grave. No progress has been made so far towards tracing the boundary, although six . rival lines are at present before the Allies. While the British are supporting the French representations to Berlin in insisting on General Hoeffer’s withdrawal there is a disposition in official quarters in London not to bring pressure on Hoeffer until Korfantz redeems his promise. Nevertheless, Hoeffer’s attempt to lay down the law is regarded as insufferable. The German press gives prominence to a report that Hoeffer has handed over four villages to the plebiscite police, whom the Foies immediately evicted. The German Government, in a new Note to the Allies, impatiently exclaims that the Inter allied Commission has not found a method of ending the insurrection, and declares that Upper Silesia is undergoing cruel sufferings as the result of Korfantz’s six weeks’ autocracy.
