SAMOA

WELLINGTON. June 9. The Minister of Eternal Affairs (the Hon. E. P. Lee) proposes to visit Samoa about the end of the month with the Undersecretary of External Affairs. Civil administration has now been in operation for 12 months, and therefore the visit will afford a good opportunity for investigation of problems which may have become apparent as tho result of experience. CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance, Mr A R, Atkinson (Wellington) was unanimously elected president. A resolution was carried: —“That the conference, hearing of the petition to repeal the prohibition of liquor traffic in Samoa, would bo against any such measure being adopted in view of the conditions upon which Samoa was handed over to New Zealand.” The conference expressed the hope that the New Zealand Government, would accept, the invitation of Ihe Swiss Government and send an official delegate to tho International Congress of Prohibitionists at Lausanne.
