At the Addington yards to-day there was a big entry of lambs and beef, and an average one of other classes of stock generally. Except in the ease of fat sheep and fat pigs tnere was a slight firming in prices, lambs agai l selling particularly well. Store Sheep.—There was a fairly full entry, chiefly consisting of lambs, with a fair proportion of wethers. The demand, owing to the recent rain having improved the pastures, was much keener, lambs selling particularly well, though at times irregularly. Generally, prices were better. Fairly good four. six. and eight-tooth wethers, 23s Id to 23s sd; two-tooth wethers, 17s 3d to 19s; four-tooth ewes, 26s 8d ; sound and failing-mouthed ewes, 17s 9d; good rape lambs, 2.3 sto 24s 3d : fairly good lambs, 17s lid to 21s 3d; small lambs, 16s to 17s; cull lambs, 11s 7u to 15s. Fat Lambs. —A yarding of 5307, considerably more than double that of iast week. Biding was spirited, and freezing buyers secured the bulk of the entry at prices ranging about 9jd to 9|d per lb; extra prime lambs, 34s lid; prime lambs, 29s 9d to 33s 3d ; medium lambs, 26s 9d to 29s 3d ; lighter lambs, 22s to 265. Fat Sheep.—Eight races of medium quality sheep were yarded. Last week’s prices were scarcely maintained, values being about 4d to 4id for owe and up to for wether mutton. Freezing buyers operated to a limited extent for lighter mutton. SOUTHLAND MARKETS. (From Our Own Correspondents.) INVERCARGILL, January 22. The stock market in Southland is very quiet; in fact, it has not yet recovered from the holiday season. There has been no sale held at Wallacetown during the week, and very few transactions of a private nature have taken place. Prices may be quoted: Fat Cattle.—Extra prime steers, £2l 10s to £23 10s; prime, £l7 to £lB 10s; extra prime cows, £l3 to £l4 10s; prime, £ll 10s to £l2 10s; extra prime heifers, £l6. Store Cattle.—Three and four-year-old steers, with condition, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; two and two and a-lialf year old steers, £6 15s to £7 10s; extra good dairy cows, £l7 to £lB. Fat Sheep.—Extra prime wetehrs, 36s to 37s 6d; prime, 33s to 345; unfinished, 30s; prime ewes, 273 to 30s; unfinished, down to 20s. Store Sheep.—Forward four and six-tooth wethers, 25s to 275; average, 22s to 21s; two-tooth wethers, down, 13s 6d to 17&; extra good, 19s. OAMARU MARKETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) OAMARU, January 22. In the stock market the feature in respect to sheep has been the eager competition for fat lambs at the weekly sale. Freezing buyers were well represented, and best lambs brought from 32s to 34s 3d, while lighter sorts realised from 29s to 31s. Some sales of cattle are :eptrleJ at the following prices:—Fat bullocks, medium weights, £l6 to £18; fat heifers, £ll to £l2 for heavy, and £7 to £8 for medium; store two-year-old steers, £6; eighteen-month-old steers, £3; mixed-sex yearlings, 30s; dairy cows coming to profit, £l2 to £l4; cows to calve in the autumn, £8 to £lO. THE FRUIT AND PRODUCE WORLD. Reilly’s Central Produce Mart reports: Choice dessert fruits, apricots, nectarines, peaches, cherries, plums, and pears realised record prices Garlic is inquired for. Section honey finds ready sale at 14s dozen. Grapes keenly competed for. Christchurch tomatoes realising high prices. Loganberries and raspberries are meeting a keen demand. Early consignments of green gages will realise extreme prices. Dessert cherries are worth 2s lb. Jam gooseberries are in over-supply, and difficult to sell. Small fruits generally are neglected, the factories being busy with stone fruits. Prime white potatoes find a ready sale. Inferior or red skins arc useless for this market. Auckland onions are very nice quality. We anticipate increased demand for stamped and guaranteed eggs higher prices ruling. A large yarding of poultry forward to yesterday’s sale. Chaff. —Arrivals continue to be in excess of the demand, and only prime lots are saleable at any price.
