SOME CONTRADICTORY REPORTS. NEW YORK, January 19. Mr Rickard denies the Times statement that the Dempsey-Carpentier fight has been cancelled. He says the match will take place positively on July 2, either in Canada or England. Mr Rickard says that every cent the articles call for has been posted to the banks here.January 19. Mr Brady lias eonfu-rrffd the statement by The Times that the Dempsey-Carpentier bout, has been cancelled. ITe declared that under the original contract relations had
been dissolved, since Carpentier and Dempsey had not deposited the guarantee sum. Carpentier was unable to transfer 50,00 dollars in gold from Franco, owing to the Government prohibition. Mr Brady added that he and Mr Coon ran were dissociated completely from the present arrangement, and a bout between Dempsey and Carpentier would be possible only under a new contract. LONDON, January 19. Mr Corfu-one states that if the American match betweea Carpentier and Dempsey is definitely off lie will offer a purse of £IOO,OOO for the men to box in England.^ Carpentier, who is in England, states that the match is not off. He paid hi 3 forfeit on November 20. Mr Ooohrane understands that the French Government would not allow Carpontier’s money to leave France.
