IMPERIAL WIRELESS CHAIN. LONDON, January 19. The Postmaster-General (Mr Illingworth), replying to a deputation of representatives of the newspaper interests of Great Britain and the whole Empire, stated that the department was doing everything possible to minimise cable and telegraphic delays. He said he was discussing the question of the duplication of the Pacific cable with the Governments concerned, and hoped that shortly a decision would be reached on the point whether the whole cable or only a portion of it should be duplicated. The Imperial Transatlantic cables are being fitted with, apparatus to speed up transmission. Mr Illingworth said the Government is also pushing on with the Imperial wireless chain. The Leafield-Cairo section was already approaching completion. It s only awaiting the delivery of the material to finish the work, after which ho hoped the other stations (India, Singapore, Hongkong, and Australia) would soon be completed. The Post Office had already established wireless services to several parts of the Continent, including the Scandinavian countries, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Prague, and Belgrade.
