MINING.

WEEK’S MINING NEWS January 12. The Waihi Gold Mining Company during the 20 crushing daye in the period ended December 81 crushed and treated 11,393 tons of ore for a return of 41920 z of gold and 23,9930 zof silver. Taking the gold at the British mint value of It 5s per oz, this works out at £18,816, while, basing the silver on the latest London quotation for that metal—namely, 3s 6d per oz—the value of that portion of the yield is £4199. In addition, copper lead bullion, valued at £9lO, was won, so that the total estimated value of the return is £23,925. Compared with the yield for the corresponding period of 1919, when 13,373 tons gave an actual return of £26,817, tills shows ail apparent decrease of £2892. The return represents the final clean-up for 1920. During the 13 four-weekly crushing periods of the year 159,308 tons of ore were crushed and treated, for bullion of the estimated value of £296,872. Compared with the preceding year, when 192,613 tons produced bullion of the actual value of £380,402, this shows an apparent decrease of £83,530. When the returns for 1920 have been corrected on tho actual realisation figures, however, this apparent deficit w-ill be largely reduced, as the estimated bullion values are invariably considerably lower than the values actually realised in London. The tonnage of ore dealt with, and the value of the returns, in the past y< ar, were decreased owing to the strike at the mine early in the year, the crushing period ended April 17 being thereby reduced to eight days. Output To Date. The total amount won from the mine to date (the past year’s value being approximate only) is £12,943,045, as shown in the following table of details:

Total to date £12,913,015 Total dividends, etc., paid to date £5,771,412 The following information has been cabled to the head office of the company in London: Ka. 12 level—Bath crosscut: At 1111 Lin the crosccut the quartz is 38in wide.
