WAIKOUAITI SHOW

The eighth annual show of the Waikouaiti A. and P. Society, held at Waikouaiti on Friday, was a pronounced success, the entries being good and the exhibits generally of a high standard of quality. There was a decided advance in the horse sections, particularly the draughts. The feature of the show hitherto has been the cattle, particularly the. Ayrshircs, but the draught horses last week were present in numbers that must have been very gratifying to the officials, while the quality was such as to provoke comment of a most favourable nature on the part of the judges. The light horses were also very good, and the classes were well contested. The cattle entries could have been better, but the quality shown was good, and particular mention must be made of the Ayrshires exhibited by Mr Ireland, ■which were worthy of a place in any show. Mr J. Birtles, of Cherry Farm, had forward some good shorthorns, an addition to the attractiveness of the cattle display. Hie other pure-bred sections were not well patronised, but in the crossbreds there were some very pleasing animals. Sheep were forward only in small numbers, and another disappointing section was that for which womenfolk are responsible, tire dairy and baking classes. Considering the amount of interest evinced in this portion of the show, it is a little surprising that the competition was not of a wider nature. The attendance was quite up to that of last year, and the society had the pleasure of being favoured by excellent weather, cloudy and cool in the morning, but more pleasant later, though there was rather more wind than might have been desired, making matters a little unpleasant to those sitting about the ring. Great credit is due to the officials for the excellent manner in which the show was conduoted. and the secretary (Mr J. Maxwell, jun.) is to be complimented upon the efficient and courteous way in which he discharged his task. The following is the prize list:— HORSES. Draughts (judge, Mr W. R.
