OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS
The monthly meeting 1 of the committee of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association waa held in the board room on Tuesday, 11th inst., Dr Fulton (president) in the chair. The following gills were received and votes of thanks passed to the donors: —From Mre J. H. Porteous, framed portrait of her late husband and herself (Mr Porteos, St. Vincent, 1565; Mrs Porteous Beautiful Star, ISG7); from Alex. Sime, Awatea, framed portrait of his late, father and mother, Mr and Mrs John Sime, Mihiwaka (Silietria, 1862); from John H. Cable, Auckland, framed portrait of liis late father, James Cable, -aunedin (Resolute, 1861); from Andrew Aitken, Gore, two poems (“Lament for a Departed Chief” and “Forty Years Syne”—a dream); from Mr James Haggen, Forth Taieri, sextant and navigation book used by the late Mr James Haggen, North Taieri, who came out in the Strathmore, 1856; from Lady M'Lean, a large number of New Zealand Parliamentary Debates. The following deaths were reported: Frederic Twiss, Milton, 91 (Nourmahai, 1858); Mrs Andrew M’Farlane, Roslyn (Strathallan, 1858); Mrs James Kay, Oamaru, 78 (A-dinga, 1861) ; Moses M‘Lay, Gore, late Ahuriri Flat, Clutha, 83 (Arirna, 1863); J. W. A. Marchant, Wellington, late Dunedin, 79 (arrived Otago, 1861); James Gough, Canterbury, 90 (Otago, 1861); William Littlejohn, Waiwera South, 88 (Strathmore, 1856); Mrs James Itoy, M’Millan street, late Wairuna, 82 (Grasmere, 1862); Peter Bell, Balcluthe., 86 (Jura, 1858); John Elder, Roxburgh, 85 (Silistria, 1860); Mrs Lydia Burton, Keikorai Valley (late sixties); Mrs Walter Guthrie, Invercargill, late Dunedin (arrived 1862). The following early settlers were enrolled: John M'Lachlan, Port Chalmers (E. P. Louver ic, 1864); Thomas Clark Urwin, Bluff (Day Spring, mission ship, 1866); Richard F. Sanderson, Hedgehope (Sevilla, 1859); Mrs It. F. Sanderson, nee Poynton, Hedgehope (early sixties); Mrs Margaret Peart, 19 Stuart street (Strathallan, 1858); Robert Mason, 23 Warrender street, Opoho (City of Hobart, 1862) John Ayson, 72 Rolleston street, Linwood, Christchurch (Royal Albert, 1853); Mrs Robert Davidson, nee Mitchell, 74 Malvern street, Woodhaugh (Robert Henderson, 1858); Wm. Sibbald, Sydney (Clutha, 1854); Mrs Annie Dallas, nee Heenan, 187 High street (Mariner, 1850); Mrs Agnes M'Pherson (Armra, 1863) The following descendants of early settlers were enrolled: —Sydney Logan Beck, 16 Princes street, Musselburgh (father, Palmyra, 1858); John Darling, Dunedin Dairy Co.
