LONDON, January 4. The Manchester Guardian understands that Mr Walter Long (First Lord of the Admiralty) is resigning owing to a lengthy and painful illness. Sir L. WorthEvans (Minister without portfolio) is likely to succeed him. January 6. It is understood that Lord Milner, Secretary of State for the Colonies, is re signing. His letter of resignation has been m Mr Lloyd George’s hands since November, when he asked leave to retire owing to failing health and the pressure of private affairs, but the Cabinet desired him to remain in office until the future ol Egypt had been settled. Apparently a settlement is too far off for this hope to be realised. The Eight Hon. Austen Chamberlain may succeed him at the Colo nial Office, the Right Hon. E. S. Montagu becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer. It is expected that a new department will be created in the Colonial Office, tan ir.g over the control of Mesopotamia and Palestine. LONDON. January 7. Sir James Alien, in an interview with tbe Globe, emphasised the necessity for the creation of a dominions’ department, under a member of Cabinet of the first rank, so as to bring about a clear differentiation between the affairs of the dominions and the Crown colonies.
