THEFTS AT WELLINGTON
WELLINGTON. January 5. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day William Harold Taylor, Roland John Dredge, John Cain, and Robert Ambrose Wilson were charged with the theft of a case of cigarettes, valued at £123 2s 9d, returned on the steamer Pohcruu from the West Coast for delivery to A. S. Paterson and Co. Dredge and Taylor pleaded guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Cain and Wilson pleaded not guilty, and were committed for trial. Bail was allowed in the sum of £3OO. Dredge is head storeman in the Harbour Board shed. j Edward Corliss, charged with the theft 1 of jewellei’v valued at £55 10s, from a | dwelling, pleaded not guilty, and was com-. I nutted for trial. It is u curious coincii dence that the goods, which wore stolen ; from the residence of the jeweller, were ! subsequently brought by another person to | Ids business premises for repair. | Phyllis Banks and Joseph Roach pleaded [ guilty on a charge of breaking and entering I a drapery and millinery establishment and stealing goods valued at £2OO ss. They | were committed to the Supreme Court r r sentence. In connection with the same case, a taxi-driver, Percy Higgs, pleaded not guilty on a charge of receiving stolen goods, lie was committed for trial.
