The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago. A. and P. Society was held on Weclnesdav afternoon, and was attended by Messrs Edgar C. Hazlett (vice-president, in the chair), R. A. Ewing, E. F. Duthie, J. W. Blair, J. Ross, 11. Price, G. H. MacEwan, D. Andrew, T. T. Ritchie, and H. C Campbell. Apologies were received from Messrs W. Gardiner, A. S. Orbell. J. Beffg, W. Turnbull, D. Murray, J. Gow, G. Black, A. Johnson, G. R. Ritchie, and W. Murray. Mr Massey (Prim© Minister) wrote staging that he regretted that his, engagements would not permit of his having the pleasure of opening the Winter Show, and that his
colleagues, owing to other engagements, also found it impossible to attend. lhe Minister of Agriculture had already promised to open the Waikato VV inter Show on the same date.—Received. The Town Clerk wrote in reply to a letter suggesting that the City Council allow the street decorations to remain in position for display during Winter Show Week, and regretted that it would not be possible to accede to the request, as most of the decorations were put up in a temporary inanmer. The lights, however, on the Town Hall would be left, as they are _of a more or less permanent nature.—Received. Tho Now Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation wrote stating that tho sum_ of £lO 10s would be donated to the society's prize funds in the fruit classes. —Received with thanks.
Tho Secretary of tho New Zealand Counoil of Agriculture wrote asking for remits for the next Agricultural Conference. — The matter to stand over until next meeting. Tho Minister of Agriculture wrote enclosing a copy of a circular regarding an appeal he is" making to farmers to grow more wheat. —Noted.
The following officers and members of committee were nominated for election for the coming year at the annual meeting to bo held on June 2: On the motion' of Mr Ewing, seconded by Mr Duthie, Mr Edgar C Hazlett was unanimously nominated for the position of president. On the motion of Mr Ewing, seconded by Mr John Roberts, Mr H. M. Driver, Clarendon, was unanimously nominated for the position of vice-president. On the motion of Mr Hazlett, seconded by Mr Roberts, Mr E. -J?. Duthie was unanimously nominated as hon. treasurer. On the motion of Mr Herbert Price, seconded by Mr J. Ross, the following members or committee were unanimously re-tfiominated :—Dunedin—Messrs R. A. Ewing, F. Freeman, T. T. Ritchie; Taieri, Mr J. W. Blair- Waihemo and North Otago .—Messrs W. Gardiner and A. Fleming; Bruce and Tunipeka, Mr T. Scott; Central Otago, Mr W. Moynihan. The following new members were proposed and duly c-leeted: —Messrs Wing Bros (Eamscleugb), J. T. ■ Tisdall (Middlemarch), M. E. Jenkins (Courtney), E. Ansooiribo (Dunedin); D. Young, jun. (Sandymount), J. and R. Allison (Moneymore), D. R. Noble (Dunedin), George Campbell (Dunedin), J. Fraser (Dunedin), J. S. M'Millan (Brockville), A. Jane (Edie■vale). The Secretary reported that all arrangements in connection with the Winter Show were well in hand, and members of committee expressed their approval at the large number of entries received for this year's fixture. A large amount of detail business in connection with the Winter Show was dealt with.
