PIGEON SHOOTING. ■ The Middlemarch Gun Club held a successful shoot on Thursday. Considering the somewhat inclement state of the weather a good number of competitors entered for the gold medal prize presented by Mr T. Quirk, the winner being Mr M'Lay, of Palmerston, who brought down nine birds out of 12. A sweepstake was arranged afterwards, and won by Mr J. Thompson with nine birds out of nine. Messrs A. Matheson and Taplin tied for second place with seven birds.
