Semple, organiser for the .New Zealand Coal Miners Federation, visited Kaitangata on Saturday, wnc-n he addressed a combined meeting of Kaitangata and Taratu miners. During the course of his address the speaker stated that at the next general election there would be a Labour candidate to contest every electorate in the dominion. On tho following (Sunday) evening Mr Semple addressed a largo audience. At this meeting the following resolution was carried, " That this meeting of Kaitangata citizens call upon tho National Government to resign, in order "to come before the electors and give an account of their stewardship, in keeping with the New Zealand Constitution." At the conclusion of the meeting some 40 ladies and gentlemen formed themselves into a branch .of the New Zealand Political Labour Party. Arrangements were made for a visit from Mr H. Holland. Mrs Wallace, Australia, will be approached with a view to a tour of New Zealand in the interests of the party. i he Waiwera Cricket Club's team visited Kaitangata on Saturday, when a local team was met. The local team was drawn to go in first for their innings, and after putting up a score/of 93 runs for seven wickets, declared the innings closed. The Waiwera team compiled 22 runs for three wickets. Messrs L. and S. Edwards, the main strength of the visiting team, were both going well with the bat, when it was agreed to draw the match to enable tho Waiwera players to negotiate the long run home in daylight. Slow progress is now being made at the new cut for the lakes drainage canal since the contractor withdrew his teams on account of alleged interference with his men by the officer representing the Public Works Engineer. Prior to this disagreeably hitch the work was being pushed ahead very rapidly. Mr Thomas Shore, who lately severed his connection with the Taratu Coal Company, has handed over his valuable collection of mining journals and other works to the Kaitangata Public Library.
