ERMEDALE (Southland).
March B.—The weather at the present time could not be improved on for harvest work. The greater part-of the crops are in the stack or etook, and before this appears in print the harvest will be a thing of the past. Bunny.—Rabbits are becoming more numelous than evei\ and the impossibility of getting bisulphide of carbon ha-s made local land-owners resort to the rabbit exterminator, which is proving very destructive to the pest. General —Land agents and land-buyers are still looking round Ermedale, and another land transaction is reported to have taken place.—There has been an unusually large number of visitors at Riverton during the holidays, and more bungalows are r.eing erected. A number of Riverton residents are also buying summer residences round at the Rocks, which is becoming a very popular' seasirl* resort. Orphanage Appeal.—Sister Nbrah, from the Dunedin Orphanage, visited the Riverton parish last Sunday, and in the Groper's Church.spoke of the good work the orphanages were doing, and on behalf of the Invercargill branch appealed for funds. Sister Nbrah also spoke of the great work done in these orphanages on behalf of the war orphans and for those whose fathers were away at the front, and had' the pleasure of intimating that after the morning service at Thornbury £67 was collected, and after the afternoon service at Gropers £37 5s was collected, which was considered very gratifying, and any who had to go to the war could rest assured that their children would be taken care of by the .church.
