THIRTY-NINTH REINFORCEMENTS.
DEPARTURE FOR CAMP. The Otugo and Southland men of what is known as the 39th Reinforcement draft left Dunedin for camp last Tuesday morning tho train steaming out of the station at 10 minutes past 11. There was a very large attendance of the public to do honour to the departing soldiers, who wero a line, healthy-looking lot, and perhaps, on the whole, rather more youthful than many previous drafts. The local Defence Staff was represented by Colonel Nicholls, Major Cooper, Major Hickey, Captain Myers, and Captain Dobson. Lieutenant Hunt, area officer at Port Chalmers, went up in charge of the draft, accomnanied by Sergeantmajor Cuddie (Dunedin) and Sergeant-major Braxton (Southland). The Milton men arrived by tho morning train from. Clinton, under tho charge of Sergeant-major Blaikie, and joined the Southland men at the Early Settlers' Hall. The recruits of tho Dunedin group were paraded at Kensington at 9.30 by Major Moller. Tho Rev. C. Dallaston and the Rev. E. Nicholls handed each man a copy of the New Testament, the gift of tho Sunday school children through the Otago Bible Society, and ladies who are always present on these 'occasions distributed handkerchiefr. and cigarettes. Colonel Smith briefly addressed the men. Headed by the Kaikorai Band, they then marched to Anzac square, where the public mustered in large numbers. Here the men were addressed by the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr J. J. Clark) and the Rev. R. 8. Gray. To the accompaniment of playing by the band and the cheering of tho crowd, the men then marched on to the station and took their departure. DUNEDIN GROUP.
