Last Friday Mra Wallie gave an afternoon tea at Onslow House for Mrs Ellis (Australia). The guests were received,, in the large drawing room, where also tea was served. Amongst those present were Lady Williams, Mesdames Ellis, Finch, W. A. Moore, Butterworth, Oldham, Leslie Wilson, S. Neill, Gallaway, Black, Dawson, Howley (Timaru), Misses Farquhar, Ei. Last week Mrs Samson (North-East Valley) gave a delightful garden party to entertain members of the Patriotic Association and Red Cross members. Mr and Mrs Bell and Miss Bell (-Shag Valley) were in town last week. Mrs Teschemaker (Blenheim) is staying with Mrs Aufrere. Penwick (St. Clair). Miss Denniston has returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mrs Ferguson and Miss Ogston have been out at Waikoua'ti for a few days. Mrs and Miss Grey (Poverty Bay) are staying at the Grand Hotel. Miss Cara Graham has returned from the North Islands The Primate and Mrs Nevill have gone to Kelso. Mr and Mrs Tennant spent a week in Dunedin on their way from Invercargill to Nelson. Miss Joachim has gone to Mount Cook. Miss Carew left last week with Mr and Mrs Stephenson for Wanganui. Mrs M'orrah is staying with her mother, Mrs Royse (Queen street). Miss G. Webster is spending a few days with her brother, Mr G. Webster, on her way north. Mrs Acton-Adams has gone to Christchurch. Mrs Alec. Burnes has returned from Invercargill. , Miss C. Stock has gone to visit friends in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Molyneux spent a day or two in Dunedin on their way from Invercargill to Wellington. Miss M. Dowling has gone on a visit- to Wellington. Mrs and Miss Lewis returned to Masterton last week. Mtrs Cameron has gone to Wellington. Mrs Vivian has returned from Brighton. Mrs Binney and Mr E. B. Binney have been spending a holiday in Timaru. INVERCARGILL, March 11. Mr and Mrs Tennent and family have left here for the north. Dr and Mrs Ewart have returned from Christchurch. Miss Seamon has returned from her visit to Wellington. Miss H. Corbett has returned from Dipton, where she was staying with Miss M'Laughlan. Miss Ridings, who has been visiting Mrs A. M. Macdonald, has returned to Dunedin. - Miss S. The United Tennis, Croquet, and Bowling Club threw their grounds open to all-comers on Saturday, when tournaments were held for the Lady Liverpool Fund. It was an ideal eummer's day, and crowds played and looked on. The courts were in beautiful order. The tea left nothing to be desired, and her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool presented two large iced cakes to be raifed, so .it is expected that the Lady Liverpool Fund will benefit considerably by this olub's efforts. Their Excellencies tho Governor-general and the Countess of Liverpool were present, accompanied by Mr Hamilton and Mr Helmore, and had many enjoyable games of tennis. The Canterbury Arts Society opened its annual exhibition at the Art _ Gallery on Thursday night in the piesence of a number of members. His Excellency the Governorgeneral and the Countess of Liverpool were present, accompanied by Messrs Helmora and Garland, Ai.D.C.'s, and thev were received by Mr Macbeth (president) and Mrs Macbeth. There was a fine display of pictures, and the Art Gallery will be a very popular- rendezvous for the next few weeks, as the committee of tho Red Cross Fund have permission to hold teas and concerts in aid of their funds. Last night the catering was in their hands, and a very delicious supper was served. Amongst those present were Professor and Mrs Blunt, Mrs Boyle, , Mrs Algar Williams, Mr and Mrs Carey' Hill, Mr and Mrs Rich, .Mrs Vernon, Mr and," Mrs Blanch, Mrs Beauchamp Lane, Mrs W. Tho Victoria League Conference' is to be held in Christchuroh during the week, and various small entertainments have been arranged for the delegates, including a motor V. drive into the country; so, given fine 5 weather, a very pleasant time should be spent. BLENHEIM, March 6. The Blenheim Bowling Club held a series of open-air concerts last week for the pur-poe-i- of laising funds for the purchase of, a hospital ambulance. Each evening the green and surrounding gardens were illuminated . by electric light, and considerable interest was taken in the bowling tournament arranged. The adjoining garden was the scene of a most attractive concert, the programme of which was slightly varied each evening. An excellent supper was provided, which was arranged in a huge marquee ancl dispensed by numerous helpers. The concert programme was an excellent one, those taking part being Misses F. Morrison, E. Connolly, Davies (3), Strickland, Mrs Ferry, Messrs G. Litchfield. E. March, F. Robineon, E, Rose, W. M'Allister, and Dr Bennett. Mrs C. W. Parker and the Misses F. Dangley, Adams, and I. Coker played the accompaniments, ' and the Tenth Mounted Regimental Band and Perry's Orchestra were generous in their selections. Some of those' I notice'd present were. Mr and Mrs R. M'Callum, Mr and Mrs Wright, Mr and Mrs C. Mills, Mr and Mors H. Burden, Mr and Mrs J. Sharp, Mr, Mrs, and Miss Lightfoot, Mrs Meade, Mrs Hall, Mrs and Miss Carry,' Misses Penny (2). Neville (3), Loughnan, Purser (Wanganui), Rowe (Wanganui), Wolferstam 'Morrison, Good, Sibbald, I. Horton, Livingstone, and many others. A very dainty afternoon tea was provided and dispensed by Mrs P. Wiffen and Miss Wolferstan on Saturday- afternoon' at the Marlborough Lawn Tennis Courts. Some of those present were Mrs Wififcn.
