HANMER SPRINGS.
September 14. —A most enjoyable social evening was held in the Queen Mary Hospital on Thursday, the Nurse Cavell Ward being crowded. Songs, recitations, competitions, and dancing filled in the evening. Songs were, sung by Miss Simpson, Lieutenant Pearce ; Corporal Dobson, and Gunner M'Kay, a recitation by Miss Devereaux, and the Highland fling by Miss Howarth. The dance music was played by Mrs Hardham, Miss Byrne, and Miss Lauriey During an interval the prizes won at previous competitions were presented by Captain Hardham, "V.C., as follows: —Basket-balancing (for inmates of Queen Mary Hospital)—Private Thompson 1, Corporal M'Donald 2. Fanning ball (for ladies) —Miss A. Thacker 1.
