WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE

CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. The Hon. G. W. Russell, speaking at the Women'.; National Reserve, said ho could not disclose the contents of the Military Service Ball, but said New Zealand's quota must be maintained, if not by the voluntary system, then by compulsion. In that case it would be necessary for women to take positions as clerks in banks, shipping offices, etc. Ho asked the reserve to prepare a register showing- what women were willing to serve as clerks. He suggested classes to educate women with an equipment below tho standard. At present it was unnecessary for women to consider farming, domestic service, and factory work in order to relieve men.
