Y.M.C.A. WORK IN EGYPT.
MORE MONEY NEEDED. CHRISTCHURCH, March 3. The secretary of the Y.M.C.A., Christchurch, has received a message from headquarters of the Now Zealand Forces, Wellington, stating that the following cablegram has been received from the headquarters of tho New Zealand Expeditionary Foroe in Cairo :—'Astonished at the extent of the work being carried out in the face of tremendous difficulties. The field is enormous, and has barely been touched. There is a continuous arrival of fresh troops. Mr Jessop is receiving numerous requests from commanding officers to establish centres. A new camping ground is being formed, and £IO,OOO will be more than wanted. Urge tho Government of NewZealand to allow in each troopship at least one experienced secretary, of mature years if possible. Tho Esbenda Gardens are being extended, and a large new scheme of a hostel for troops is being arranged. An unlimited extension of work in all the camps can bo carried out immediately the financial control is satisfactory." HANDSOME DONATION. PALMERSTON N.. March 6. Mr J. M. Johnston's motion at to-night's meeting of tho Patriotic Society that £2OOO bo voted to tho Y.M.C.A. fund:; was carried unanimously. . RACING CLUB'S DONATION. WANGANTJI, March 4. The committee of the Jockey Club has allocated the whole of the net profits of the recent meeting, amounting to £1043, to patriotic purposes, as under: £SOO to the Y.M.C.A. war fund, £IOO towards furnishing the local Returned Soldiers' Club, £IOO to tho Salvation Army war fund, and the balance of £343 to the British Rod Cross.
