FOR THE EMPIRE'S CAUSE.
DOWNING—On December 14, 1915, at 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt, of wounds received while in action at Oallipoli, William Gibson Downing, N.Z.M.C., only beloved son of Mrs K. Downing, Anderson Bay; aged 24 years. Ho laid the world away, Poured out the red wine of youth, Gave up the years to be, of work and joy, And that unhoped serene, that men call age.
BROWN.—On March 3, at his residence, Woodcnd, Wangaloa, James D. Brown; in his 75th year. Deeply regretted. CHRISTIE'.—At Tiroiti, Hyde, on March 1, Alice Montgomery, beloved daughter of James and Elizabeth M. Christie; aged six years and six months. Deeply mourned-. CLIFFORD—On February 28, at Auckland. Amy Henrietta, beloved youngest daughter of the late 11. G. Clifford, postmaster, Clinton. Deeply mourned. DAVIE.—On March 4, 1916, at his residence, 652 Cumberland street, John Davie; in his 89th year.
DUNSMUIR.—On March 3, at her residence. 33 Goodall street, Caversham, Dunodin, Elizabeth, beloved wife of James Dunsmuir. Deepiv mourned. FLETT.—On March 5. at Skilbistcr, Table Hill. Mary Douglas, dearly-loved wife of 11. B. Flctt; in her sixty-sixth year. "A great sufferer ah rest." FREEMAN.—On March 3. at Dunodin. George Freeman, bfte of George street North ; aned 79 years. GOLDSMTD.—On March 1. at her residence. 262 High street, Rebecca, beloved wife of Henry Goldsmid; aged 74 years. "At rest " Flowers respectfully declined. HERRON.—On March 2. al her residence. Fail-view, Pukcrau, Ann Jane, beloved'wife of Thomas Herron, sen.; in her sixtv-eiffhth year. Deeply regretted. HORN.—On March 3. at Sawyers' Ray. Ivy. eldes" daughter of William 11. and Alice Horn; aged 22 years. HORNBY.-—On March 1. at Hnedin. Frances May. the beloved infant daughter of Frederick and Ellen Hornby, 21 Main South road Caversham; aged 13 months. Deeply regretted. JAFFRAY.-On March 7. at hU residence. Saddle Park. Saddle Hill, William Jaffray; in his ninety-sixth year. Deeply mourned.
