March 1. —Wo could not wish for hotter weather. Certainly it has not been all of ono class, but beautiful sunshine with cold evenings, and a day or two of wind thrown in. The Farm. last week. A few oat crops remain to bo cut, but. the greater part is in stook. _ A fortnight ago a ve'ry destruotivo _ wind crossed the. Downs, and a lot of grain was thrashed there and then. Still, looking at the stooking all over, I must say that there aro bumper crops. I would not like to particularise any crop as being extra good, when there are so many nice-looking fields of stooks. There arc also some magnificentcrops of turnips on the Downs. There have been great depredations by the small birds and hail. A fortnight ago a hailstorm burst over part of Pomahaka Downs and Wairuna. It was not general, but travelled over a strip of country, cutting the turnip and potato loaves. Enlistment. —I see by the Witness that a oemmutec of agriculturists in the Dublin district of Australia is taking over and managing tho farms of young farmers who wish to enlist. I know of one young farmer who would bo very glad of such an opportunity, and doubtless there are many others. The Farmers' Unions should take up this matter The Thistle—Most farmers will now seo that this thistle ought not to b'o called a "noxious weed." When cut and dried, horses and cattle eat it with great relish.
