GORGE ROAD (Southland).
October 3.—We have enjoyed good Rprinnweather, and the farmers are well forward with their work. Dairy Factory.—The local dairy factory has opened again, under the management of Mr George Knox, who has come here from the Seaward Downs Factory with the reputation of being a very attentive, painstaking, civil, and competent young man, and I feel confident ho will uphold the reputation of Gorge Road cheese. During the off season the directors have had an engine, agitators, and curd mill installed by Messrs Wilkins and Co. (Ltd.), of Invercargill. For the Front and at It.—Messrs Houston Bros, had a very successful sale of their dairy cows. It is not their intention to milk this season, as Mr E. R. Houston, the senior partner, has volunteered for active service. Mr John Houston, the younger brother, who wont to the front with the. First Contingent as a member of the Wellington Engineers, had the misfortune to too wounded a week or two back. I feel sure all Gorge Road people join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.
