KAITANGATA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SPRING SHOW. The Kaitangata Horticultural Society held its spring show in the Church Hall on Friday. The weather conditions had been very much against a successful exhibition, but notwithstanding this tho show was a very creditable one. A regrettable feature of the display was the small number of entries in tho pot plant section, but as usual the narcissi sections showed some splendid blooms. The champion narcissus was shown by Mrs Steele—a truly fine bloom of White Lady. Tho, Judge (Mr C. E. Naish, of Balclutha) said that it was the best he had seen. Mr Sharman’s collection of narcissi was splendid. In this class he had no fewer than 64 varieties. Mr Geo. Aitchison’s was also a good collection; indeed, the judge had considerable difficulty in awarding the first prize, which eventually fell to Mr Sharman. The anemones shown were specially good, and so were the ranunculi, and the collections of cut flowers, which were very well arranged. A feature of the show was a daisy (Beilis Perennis Monstrosus). In the decorative section the bowls came in for very favourable comment. Mr Naish complimented the society on the enthusiasm of its members, and mentioned that in a walk he bad had round the town ho noticed more signs of gardening and a greater display of young flowers than he had seen in Balclutha. In tho evening a concert was held in conjunction with tho show. The attendance was fair. The following contributed items: —Miss D. Frazer, violin solo; Mr N. G. Noble, recitation; Nurse Lakeman, song; Mr Geo. Aitcnison, song; Messrs W. Prictor, Geo. Mee, A. Mec, Payne, and Platt, harmonised chorus.
