PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED.

We have received from Messrs Fleming* ■way and Robertson’s Correspondence Schools, Auckland, a neatly got up booklet entitled “The Call of the Empire.” The booklet has been written in the interests of young women, youths, and also men who, for various reasons, are unable to join the Expeditionary Forces. It lays down clearly the duty of these people, and shows how everyone can, by the exercise of a little determination and systematic work, become of real and lasting service not only to the Empire but to themselves. Tins inspiring little booklet may be obtained on written application to the director of Messrs Hemingway and Robertson’s Correspondence Schools, Union Buildings, Auckland. The Girl’s Realm for August contains a number of interesting general articles and several short stories. “A Night Among the Nocturnal Animals and Birds” will delight Nature-lovers. “Looking Backward” contrasts August of this year w v ho same month of last year. “Marrying .1 Man to Reform Elirn” is discussed. Of special interest are the articles on “Modelling in Coloured Wax,” “Painting on Silk and Satin,” “Careers for Women,” “Two Pretty Fan Laces,” and those dealing with fashions and dress. Some summer recipes should be found serviceable. Fiction is not neglected. The number is well illustrated. The Now Magazine for September (Cassell and Co.) contains quite a host of stories by well-known writers of fiction, such as Radcliffc Martin, Olive Wadsley, Sax Rohmer, Andrew Soutar, and others. There •is a long complete novel by Abbot Lane.
