ESCAPE FROM PRISON.
A man named John Daniel Black, committed for trial, managed to effect an escapo from the Dunedin Gaol about 2 p.m. on the 29th ult. It appears that he was in the exercise yard, and got through a gate into another yard, where he scaled the 15ft wall in Gaol street. His disappearance was discovered at 5 minutes past 2, and detectives and constables were at once sent in search of him, but up to the present he has not been captured. Ho is supposed to have taken a northerly direction after leaving the gaol. Black was charged with attempting to commit a serious offence on a young woman at Anderson’s Bay, it being alleged that ho attacked her in a paddock in broad daylight. Ho had previously boarded with her parents, and was going homo with her at the time. The man is 23 years of age, sft 3|in in height, and of medium square build. Ho is of fair complexion, has a small sandy moustache, brown hair, and bine eyes. He was wearing a blue suit with" a faint narrow white stripe.
