Many curious thing may bo effected_ by Act of Parliament, but for unconscious humour the Gazette notice which transforms a Native to a European by a scrape of the pen is difficult to equal. Last week’s Gazette publishes a notice to the effect that the Governor, by an Order-in-Council, has declared a Native (Henry Pokiha Asher, of Tauranga) to be a European. Houses are said to be at a premium at Lawrence, there not being a vacant habitable house in the town.
