Each year (says the Wellington Post) every Government orchard inspector in New Zealand furnishes his Director (Mr T. W. Kirk) with an estimate of the area likely to bo planted with fruit trees during the current planting season. Subsequently these estimates arc checked by the. area actually planted with .trees, and up to the p - 'sent timo they have proved to be remarkably accurate. The estimated figures for this year are as follow;—Auckland, 875 acres; Hamilton, SO acres; Hawke’s Bay, 150 acres; Wanganui-Taranaki, 5 acres; Palmerston-Wairarapa; 35 acres; Wellington, 35 acres; Nelson, 550 acres; Marlborough, 200 acres; Otago, 'ISO acres; Canterbury, 200 acres; South Canterbury, 45 acres. This will bring the total area under fruit trees in the dominion up to 44,74fS acres. Mr H. Black, of Dannevirko, has received a cablegram that the cheese shipped by him from the factories at Maharahara, Kiritaki, Tataramoa, and Piri Pm, per s.e. Rotorua, realised 100 s pox cwt.
