EVACUATION OF PRZEMYSL.
ALL WAR MATERIAL SAVED,
PETROCtRAD; June 4. Official : We have been for some time past removing gradually from Przemysl various materia] taken from the Austrians. This was completed ;■ we removed the last material during' the battles on Tuesday. We evacuated the following night, in conformity with orders, our position on the west and north fronts, and formed a more concentrated force on the east.
The enemy have concentrated very large forces in the vicinity of Stryj, and made progress on the Tismontza front, though at the cost of very great losses. We captured 1000 in our counter-attacks. In the Caucasus our troops pursued the Turks from Manghelw. They reached the villages of Rakow and Zakha, whence we repulsed them to the west and south. News of the fall of Przemysl was received with wonderful stoicism by all classes. It is regarded as a mere episode in a great and complicated struggle. Its loss is considered merely temporary.
Experts declare that sound generalship could not risk a large Russian force being cut off in the fortress, especially as the ever-increasing concentration of AustroGermans towards Stryj shows a determination to force a way to Lemberg at all costs.
