RAILWAY COAL CONTRACTS.
CFbom Oua Own Cobbespondent.) GREYMOUTH, Juno 7.
There was an impression abroad after the visit of the Minister of Railways to Westport that the coal companies had been endeavouring to raise the price of coal to the railways. From inquiries made, the Westport Times is able to state that the Westport Coal Company, which supplied the bulk of the coal from that district, quoted the same price as it has been getting trom the department for .iome years.., Furthermore, at the beginning of the present crisis, the company promised the Government that no difference would be made by it in the price of its coal unless the cost of producing it was raised. Coal is one of the few artCl ;s that has not increased in price owing to the war, although many of the stores used in the mines have, increased materially in price.
