BOXING
AUCKLAND, June 3,
The Northern Boxing Association held a successful carnival this evening. The main attraction was a contest between Barney Ireland and Sid. Mitchell for the professional middle-weight championship of New Zealand. The contest was full of incident. In the sixth round Mitchell was groggy at the gong, but ho recovered quickly, and in the ninth round he knocked Ireland out.
INMAN v. STEVENSON,
LONDON, June 6.
The game of 18,000 up, on level terms, for £IOO a-side, between Inman and Stevenson, resulted in favour of the former by 223 points. Scores:

HOCKEY.
SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT
The Otago Ladies’ Hockey Association carried out a most successful seven-a-sido tournament at For bury on Thursday. The competition was conducted in two grades, there being nine entries in the senior or A grade and 13 entries in the B grade. All the local ladies’ clubs were represented, in some cases by as many as four teams, and teams were also sent in by the Balclutha Ladies’ Club, the Balclutha High School,. and the Mosgiel High School. A full round of matches was played in the A grade, but it was found impossible to do so in the B grade owing to the large number of entries received. . The B grade tournament ended therefore With the eighth round. The ladies wore favoured with perfect weather for their games, and in the afternoon a large crowd of spectators gathered. Play commenced dt 10 a.m., and was continued -without intermission till almost 5 o’clock. Games lasted for only 10 minutes, being played in two five-minute spells. Three grounds were in almost constant use. The games were all very vigorously contested, and the majority of the players stood the strain of seven or eight contests' very well. The school girls were conspicuous for neat and “ nippy ” play, and all stood well up on the list at the close. The A grade contest was won the University No. I team, which won every one of its matches. The B grade contest was won by the Mosgiel High School girls, who won seven matches and drew one. The ninth round in the A grade was not completed.

HOME LINKS CORONATION MEDAL. The result of the Home Links Coronation Medal match, the first open competition of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union, was as follows: —

ST. CLAIR CHAMPIONSHIP.
WON BY A. SIME
The second 13 holes of the final for the St. Clair Club championship were played on Saturday in weather that compared very favourably with that of the previorj Saturday, when W. D. McCarthy, handicapped by the rain on his finished 7 down. Starting on Saturday with that deficit, he became 8 down at the first hole, but won the second and third in 5 and 4 respectively, reducing Sirne’s lead to 6 up. Sime won the next in 3-4, and M'Carthy took the
fifth in 5-6, and again became 6 down, lie, however, lost the sixth, halved the next two, and lost both the ninth and tenth. Simo thus won by 9up and Bto play. The winner’s driving was excellent, and the runner-up approached and putted well.
