PALMERSTON NOTES.
(Fhom Odb Own Corbespondent.)
PALMERSTON, June 2. The usual exodus to the Winter Shovr has taken place this week, and Palmerston seems deserted. After the bad weather experienced lately it is fortunate that it has cleared up so well. There was a very heavy frost this morning, with every appearance of another to night. The ladies of the district have been very busy sewing for the troops and the hospital ship. Several large boxes of Balar clava caps, socks, mittens, blankets, sheets, and other necessities have already been sent away. Before the 10th inst. Palmerston will have done its duty in this direction, as there are still large numbers of unifinished garments in the hands of the ladies, but all are expected to he ready before that date. The rain which has fallen during the last week has made the ground quite tit for ploughing Up till now the surface hud been too hard, except on fallow paddocks.
