OVERWORKED MINISTERS.

TOO MANY PORTFOLIOS. (Frou Oua Own Correspondent.) v WELLINGTON, July 17. The overworking of Ministers of the Crown was touched upon by Mr Anderson, M.P. last night. At present, he remarked, the portfolios of Finance, Defence, and Education were carried by a single Minister. In his opinion the duties of Minister of Finance and Defence were quite sufficient for any one man, and would provide more work than any man could get through in a working day of eight hours. They had seen that night (when the Education Bill was brought down) what a burden of work rested upon the Minister of Education. The Prime Minister, he considered, should not have to carry any other portfolio, and should be freed from departmental work. Approving interjections which came from different parts of the House indicated that a number of members shared the views of the member for Mataura.
