There was something of a stir on Custom House quay lato on Tuesday night (says the Wellington Post). A constable, on making his usual round, found the door of a big warehouse unlatched. The possibility of a crime suggested itself, and so the police made further inquiries. Principals of the firm were summoned, and a thorough inspection of the building was made. Everything was found to be intact. It is understood (says the Christchurch Sun) that another of Canterbury’s large estates will come upon the market within the next few months. The Mount Parnassus Estate, owned by Mr E. D. Giles, is to be subdivided into suitable farms. There remains about 5000 acres of tins estate, much of which is heavy agricultural and grazing land, and will be specially suitable for subdivision, being alongside the railwav.
