A BOWLING FEAT. An English exchange states that bowling against the Fylde Cricket eleven at Blackpool recently,-Mr J. C. Lawton, who is over 50 years of age, took five wickets with five balls in one over, and seven wickets with 13 balls, having only one run scored against him. The J. C. Lawton hero referred to will in all probability be the famous Otago cricket coach of many years ago. CRICKET IN ENGLAND. LONDON, July 13. In the return match at Lord’s, the Gentlemen made 265, and the Players had lost'two wickets for 58 runs at the drawing of stumps. July 14. Essex, 138 and 220, were defeated by Kent, who declared closed with 475 for seven wickets. Seymour made 214 for the champion county. The Plavers’ first innings yielded 256. J. W. H. T. Douglas took nine wickets for 105. The Gentlemen, who made 265 in their first venture, had scored 148 for two wickets at the close of to-day’s play. Despite the great heat, Douglas bowled 58 overs, and combined a swerve with extreme accuracy of pitch. J uly 15. Tire Gentlemen made 275 in their second venture at Lord’s. The Players were dismissed for 150 on a wet wicket. Their first four wickets fell for 7 runs. Douglas took four wickets for 67, F. Foster four for 56,. S. Smith tw 7 o for 27. The Gentlemen won the match by 134 runs. Honours are thus easy for the season, the Players having won at the Oval last week by 241 mns. •
