Fleming, W. Scott, and the Hon. T. Fergus. BEQUESTS FOR HALF-COST. Applications for subsidies towards repairs at Musselburgh (improvement of _ school grounds), Waitahuna (repairs to fences), Glenkcnich (improving school ground) were received. —Half-cost granted, in each case. aechitect’s recommendations. The architect made the following recommendations :—That an extra grant of £2 for drainage works at Waikouaiti be sanctioned, that a small gate with posts be provided at the teacher’s residence at Awamangu; that fencing, levelling, and asphalting be done at Stony Creek: that a coalshed be erected at Pounawea; that the residence at Allanton be repaired; that a washhouse and grate be supphed to the residence at Hawea Flat; chat the race through the school glebe at Livingstone be filled in; that. the two back rooms of the residence at Evans Flat be removed, and a coal shed and drainage provided; that a new fence of about 21 chains be erected on the road side of the school at Kaihiku; that no repairs be effected, to the outbuildings and drainage at the Momona school; that the East Taieri School Committee bo offered half-cost of top-dressing asphalt round the school.—The recommendations were approved. THE FORBUET SCHOOL. The Secretary of the Education Department wrote st'iting that the Minister regretted his inability to increase the grant of £IOO that had been previously sanctioned towards acquiring an addition for the Forbury School site. Referring to th’s matter, the Hon. T. Fergus said he thought the department had shown a great lack of judgment and appreciation in not granting the request. The Forbury School Committee was one of the most up-to-date, alive, and go-ahead in the dominion. The school had not two acres of land in that densely populated area, and the committee was willing to contribute 25 per cent, towards the cost of purchase. It was most disappointing to find that no consideration at all had been extended to them, especially when they were willing to help themselves in that manner. He fully recognised that the Minister of Education was doing a great deal of good service, but hs was strongly of opinion that in this case the Minister had not shown his usual judgment. Mr Scott moved a resolution to the effect that a letter should be be drafted to the Minister in» connection with the matter. Mr Israel suggested that the letter should be sent in the form of a protest against the refusal. ' . After some further discussion the board decided to adopt Mr, Scott’s motion, and the chairman, Air . Fergus, and the secretary were appointed, to draft a letter to the Minister placing the whole matter before him and renewing the request. CORRESPONDENCE. The Waitati School Committee wrote asking the . board ,to assist the committee' in extending the existing shelter shed, as it was considered insufficient for the present requirements. —The Architect said he oould not recommend that the application be granted, and it was therefore declined. The Lawrence School Committee wrote applying for assistance in putting coke stoves in all the rooms of the school, and also in the matter of draining the stormwater off the school ground.—lt was decided to pay half-cost of the installation of the stoves and also to get the drainage work dime. The Moray Place School Committee wrote asking for new furniture for'one room and also for new doormats. —Inspector to report. The Glenoro School Committee wrote asking for a new floor for the school and also for repairs to the residence.—Architect to report. ( The Clutha Valley A. and P.
