OUR COUNTRY'S DRUM.
Now, some day in the future years (The truth is written clear), • The foe shall sweep upon us and Our glorious city here; Mighty guns shall sweep the channel, Giant shells shall shriek and hum, i And then you’ll hear the beating Of New Zealand's battle drum. Like the sound of rolling thunder Shall the shout go echoing forth: “Do the people of the Southlands Pear the people from the North? Come, our sons, and come, our daughters,'* And from mansion, park, and slum The folk shall rise with weapons. And shall gather round the drum. And the answer of the people Shall be given there once more; And the guns shall fling that answer From the forts upon North Shore; While from creek and plain and mountain Soldiers by the score shall come, Saying: “Lo, we march in answer To cur country’s sounding drum.” E. L. Eynn. “Mokoia,” Tui st., Devonport, Auckland.
