YACHTING TRAGEDY

LONDON, July 8.

At the river tragedy inquest the members of the party testified that all the party were perfectly sober." Sir Denis Anson exhibited youthful vivacity, and was “ larking ” about. The climbed upon and walked along the awning rail, the captain compelling him to descend.' Anson then mounted a seat, dived into the river, and swam towards the shore. The party heard him shouting “Quickly! Quickly!'’ and Mr Mitchell, a member of the orchestra, attempted a rescue. He dis appeared in the strong current. The jury was satisfied that Anson was sober.

The party included Lady Diana Manners and Miss Nancy Cunard. Counsel announced that the late Sir Denis Anson’s family were providing for Mitchell’s widow and child. A verdict of accidental death was recorded. Tile coroner paid a tribute to the heroism of Messrs Mitchell and Bencken dorff.

Evidence tendered at the inquest showed that Sir Denis Anson was the life and soul of the party He was a good swimmer, and did not know fear. He had previously dived from a great height at Venice into the Grand Canal.
