MINING RUSH

DIAMOND FIELD IN BECHUANALAND. CAPETOWN, December 4. There is a tremendous diamond rush on the alluvial diggings at Killarney, 24 miles from Taunga, in British Bechuanaland. Twelve hundred men pegged out their claims in the presence of thousands of spectators amid scenes of the wildest excitement. The gravel apparently is spread over a largo area, but is extremely shallow, varying from a yard to six inches. Experienced prospectors consider that the rush is not warranted, while the outlook for women and children is bad, water and food being scarce.
