COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

A meeting of the committee of the above society was held on Thursday night. The Elocution Sub-committee reported that it had considered the suggestions referred to it, and recommended—(l) That a Dickens character sketch in costume be included in the programme to replaco the character dialogue; prizes, £3 3s and £1 Is. (2) That a ladies' impromptu speech bo included in the programme to replace the impromptu debate. (3) That the champion recitation and the recitation by New Zealand author be divided into two sections — one for ladies and one for gentlemen. (4) That the humorous recitations for boys and girls be extended as follows:—Boys 12 years and under, boys over 12 years and under 16; girls 12 years and under, girls over 12 years and under 16. (5) Recommend that the prepared reading be deleted from the programme.—The eub-committee's recommendation was adopted. The "Musio Sub-committee reported having considered the recommendations referred to it, and advised as follows: —(1) That in junior song for girls under 15 competitors bo allowed to choose any key. (2) That in the piano solo selections the ages be altered as follows: —(a) Under 10, (b) 10 and under 12, (c) 12 and under 14, (d) 14 and under 16 (ej 16 and under 18. (3) That song (gentlemen) accompanied by self be deleted from programme. (4) That concerted musio for two pianos bo included in the programme. It was recommended that there bo one section for two performers (prizes, £2 2s and £1 le) and one section for four performers (£4 4s and £2 2s), open to aIL (5) That the Scotch song be divided into two sections —one for ladies and one for gentlemen. (6) That a child's action song in character be included in the programme. It has been decided next year to engage the services of three judges—one for vocal music, one for instrumental music, and one for elocution.
